Educational Leaders in Residence (ELR) are responsible for developing and implementing high-impact, institutional teaching and learning projects that lead to clear outcomes and results.

The ELR in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) will advance GenAI practices, standards and pedagogies within the UCalgary community and beyond. 

Educational Leaders in Residence: Generative AI

  • Review and advise on the development of practices to support and advance teaching and learning with GenAI at UCalgary;
  • Facilitate campus conversations related to teaching and learning with GenAI through existing campus networks and committees;
  • Advise and consult with academic programs on meaningfully integrating GenAI into programs and curricula, in collaboration with TI staff;
  • Advise on and develop resources to support academic staff, teaching assistants, students and other university partners in the development of GenAI teaching and learning expertise;
  • Contribute to scholarship related to teaching and learning with GenAI, including evaluating and disseminating the success and impact of initiatives implemented to strengthen pedagogical practices around GenAI;
  • Participate in institutional initiatives related to GenAI use at the University of Calgary;
  • Connect with other Educational Leaders in Residence, TI leadership and the VPTL to report on progress and relevant findings.
Dr. Soroush Sabbaghan

Soroush Sabbaghan, PhD

Dr. Soroush Sabbaghan, PhD is an Associate Professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary. His research and teaching center on the integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in K–12 and higher education. He has developed a suite of GenAI-powered applications that enhance teaching and learning while fostering inclusive and efficient educational environments. His scholarly work examines the pedagogical, ethical, and practical implications of AI adoption in academia, with a focus on student learning, assessment design, and faculty development. He is also the editor of the forthcoming book Navigating Generative AI in Higher Education: Ethical, Theoretical, and Practical Perspectives.
