Undergraduate Research
Educational Leaders in Residence (ELR) are responsible for developing and implementing high-impact, institutional teaching and learning projects that lead to clear outcomes and results.
The ELR in Undergraduate Research will work to strengthen partnerships and build capacity for high-quality undergraduate research experiences, particularly in curricular opportunities across UCalgary.
Educational Leaders in Residence: Undergraduate Research
- Support faculty members and research coaches in designing and mentoring high-quality curricular undergraduate research experiences;
- Expand and promote online learning modules aimed to enhance faculty expertise in designing undergraduate research experiences at UCalgary;
- Advance faculty development initiatives related to undergraduate research through existing campus networks and committees (e.g., Associate Deans, Teaching and Learning, General Faculties’ Council Teaching and Learning Committee (GFC-TLC), TI workshops, communities of practice, and events);
- Contribute to scholarship related to undergraduate research, including evaluating and disseminating the impact of initiatives that strengthen undergraduate research capacity;
- Align to and support the institutional priorities and goals for experiential learning and undergraduate research as described in the Experiential Learning Plan 2020-2025;
- Connect with other Educational Leaders in Residence, TI leadership and the VPTL to report on progress and relevant findings.

Adela Kincaid, PhD
Dr. Adela Tesarek Kincaid, PhD is an assistant professor (teaching) in the International Indigenous Studies program. Adela is an ELR at the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning where she is focusing on undergraduate research and experiential learning. Specifically, Adela is interested in transforming ways of knowing and providing interdisciplinary opportunities for faculty to redesign courses and advance Indigenous knowledges in partnership with Indigenous communities and land. Adela’s work includes learning with, and from, Indigenous communities and organizations. Her courses focus on Indigenous ethics and protocols, animal-human relationships and directly learning from Indigenous communities.
