About the Teaching Awards
Since 2014, the University of Calgary Teaching Awards have recognized and celebrated outstanding contributions to teaching and learning. The University of Calgary Teaching Awards recognizes teaching excellence in diverse learning contexts by individuals and teams through curriculum design and educational leadership.
A University of Calgary Teaching Award is an honour for members of the university community who, through their commitment and expertise, create deep and lasting learning experiences. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate individuals and groups who make outstanding contributions to enriching the quality and breadth of learning.
Important dates and deadlines
- Call for nominations announced: June 2026
- Nomination letter and dossier preparation: June – Sept., 2026
- Peer feedback period: June to Sept. 10, 2026
- Application submission deadline: Sept. 28, 2026 (11:59 p.m.)
- Adjudication period: Sept. – Nov. 2026
- Notice of award: Jan. 2027
- Celebration of teaching: Feb. 2027

Review application supports
Prepare a robust nomination dossier, review comprehensive online resources and sample teaching philosophy statements, and review the nomination package requirements.
Submit an application package
Collate and submit your nomination package. A submission form will appear here and on the nomination guidelines page in spring/summer 2026.
Some of the courses I've created, I've created because students directly asked me if it was possible to create a course to address them. It challenges me to constantly think about issues and see how what I am teaching relates and helps them contribute directly to the world around them.

Apply to be an adjudicator
Each year, over 60 adjudicators from across campus support the process of selecting the Teaching Award recipients. Academic staff, AUPE staff, MaPS, postdoctoral scholars and students are encouraged to sign-up here when the form opens in the fall.
